Character Creation

At the start of Last State, you define your survivor's background and capabilities. This determines your starting stats, skills, equipment, and innate traits.

Attributes

Your build begins with four core attributes. Each one ranges from 3 to 10.

Think of attributes as your long-term identity:

  • Strength decides how much pressure your body can handle
  • Agility decides how cleanly you move through danger
  • Endurance decides how long you can keep going when things get bad
  • Intelligence decides how efficiently you learn and solve problems

Strength (STR)

  • What it changes: Carry capacity and physically demanding tasks
  • Main bonus: +3 kg carry capacity for each point above 3
  • How to train it: Hunting, Butchering, Carpentry
  • Best for players who: Loot heavily, haul materials, and build often

Agility (AGI)

  • What it changes: Stealth, movement control, and evasive reactions
  • Main impact: Better sneaking, smoother travel, higher dodge potential
  • How to train it: Fishing, Tracking, Stealth actions
  • Best for players who: Scout ahead, avoid fights, and play tactically

Endurance (END)

  • What it changes: Injury resilience and tolerance for sustained hardship
  • Main impact: Better resistance to physical trauma and attrition
  • How to train it: Surviving damage and prolonged physical effort
  • Best for players who: Travel hard, fight often, and survive rough weather

Intelligence (INT)

  • What it changes: Global learning speed and technical efficiency
  • Main bonus: Faster skill XP growth across the board
  • Extra impact: Better medical use and stronger advanced crafting output
  • How to train it: Crafting, Cooking, Farming
  • Best for players who: Optimize progression and rely on systems mastery

Professions (Loadouts)

Your choice of profession determines your starting Attributes, Skills, and Equipment. This table is synced to the current game loadout set of 18 professions in total.

  • Primary Skill: Main specialization of the loadout
  • Secondary Skill: Supporting specialization

Perks are permanent character traits selected during creation. You must choose an equal number of Positive and Negative perks.

  • Strong Back: +20 kg carry capacity
  • Keen Eye: +15 to Tracking and Gathering
  • Fast Healer: HP regeneration 50% faster
  • Iron Stomach: 75% resistance to food poisoning
  • Cold Adapted: 30% slower warmth drain
  • Efficient Eater: 20% slower hunger drain
  • Water Conservator: 20% slower thirst drain
  • Thick Skinned: 15% damage reduction
  • Optimist: Morale drains 25% slower
  • Night Owl: Can work at night with no penalties

Negative Perks

  • Weak Back: -20 kg carry capacity
  • Poor Vision: -15 to Tracking and Gathering
  • Slow Healer: HP regeneration 30% slower
  • Sensitive Stomach: 2x chance of food poisoning
  • Cold Sensitive: 30% faster warmth drain
  • Big Appetite: 20% faster hunger drain
  • Dehydrates Quickly: 20% faster thirst drain
  • Thin Skinned: 15% more damage taken
  • Pessimist: Morale drains 25% faster
  • Light Sleeper: Must sleep every 24h instead of 36h
