Settlements

Enclaves of civilization in the wasteland that may form as the game progresses.

Features

  • Interactive NPCs: Survivors with distinct names and personalities
  • Reputation System: Your standing with a settlement affects trade prices and interactions. Ranges from Hated to Heroic
  • Services:
  • Trading: Barter goods with NPCs. Reputation influences prices (+/-50%)
  • Quests: Complete tasks (Retrieve, Hunt, Escort, Deliver) to earn rewards and trust
  • NPC Crafting: Craftsmen can build advanced equipment (e.g., Masterwork Spear, Reinforced Vest) if provided with materials
  • Healer: Special NPCs carrying medical supplies

NPC Roles

Populations (size 4-12) are composed of mixed roles:

  • Trader
  • Healer (At least one guaranteed per settlement)
  • Scout
  • Farmer
  • Craftsman
  • Guard

Spawn Mechanics

  • Dynamic Formation: Settlements have a small chance to form daily after Day 20
  • Limit: Maximum of 32 settlements per world
  • Location: Randomly located in valid terrain (avoids lakes), at least 15 tiles away from the player
  • Discovery: You may hear rumors of distant settlements before finding them. Discovered settlements appear on the map
