Inventory & Storage

Managing your inventory is crucial. If you exceed your weight capacity, items will be automatically dropped.

Capacity

  • Slots: There is no hard limit on item types you can carry (unlimited slots)
  • Weight (kg): Every item has weight
  • Max Weight: Runtime weightCap(p) starts from base 100kg and then applies modifiers
  • Condition Factor: clamp(0.8 + condition/200, 0.6, 1.15) multiplies the 100kg base first
  • Strength Bonus: +3kg per point above Strength 3
  • Perks:
  • strong_back: +20kg
  • weak_back: -20kg
  • Carry gear (tool carryBonus):
  • Reed Basket: +10kg
  • Survival Backpack: +30kg
  • Travel Backpack: +40kg
  • Expedition Pack: +28kg
  • Domesticated animal utility: active follow-role animals can add carry bonus.
  • Active companion perk: companion with positive strong_back adds +10kg

Encumbrance

  • Overweight: If Total Weight > Max Weight
  • Consequences:
  • Movement is not hard-blocked by overweight state
  • Auto-Drop Enforcement: After actions, the game runs auto-drop if overweight:
  • drops resources first (heaviest resource types first, one unit at a time)
  • then drops the heaviest tool-like items if needed
  • continues until weight is within cap or nothing valid remains
  • Over-Effort Survival Drain (hourly simulation): once load exceeds 60% of capacity, fatigue/hunger/thirst pressure increases with overEffort; very high overEffort can also add injury risk

Storage

  • Ground Storage (Tile-Based): Dropped items/resources persist on the current world tile (groundAt(x,y)), not only at home/shelter
  • Containers: Specific storage furniture enables organized loot and has fixed capacities (slots)
  • Wooden Chest: 50 slots
  • Barrel: 75 slots
  • Crate: 35 slots
  • Clay Pot: 20 slots
  • Container State: Built containers are saved per tile in storageContainers and keep their own item/resource contents.

Container Types

Craftable Containers

Wooden Chest
  • Craft time: 2 hours
  • Fatigue cost: 0.625
  • Capacity: 50 slots
  • Role: general base storage
Barrel
  • Craft time: 3 hours
  • Fatigue cost: 0.8
  • Capacity: 75 slots
  • Role: high-capacity bulk storage
Crate
  • Craft time: 1.5 hours
  • Fatigue cost: 0.5
  • Capacity: 35 slots
  • Role: quick staging storage
Clay Pot
  • Craft time: 2 hours
  • Fatigue cost: 0.575
  • Capacity: 20 slots
  • Role: compact storage for smaller stocks

Storage Mechanics

Placing Containers

  1. Craft container
  2. Place container on the tile
  3. Access it by interacting at that location
  4. Multiple containers can exist on one tile

Container Access

  • Local only: you must be on the same tile
  • No remote access
  • Unlimited transfers in/out (subject to container capacity and inventory logic)
  • Persistent: containers remain until destroyed/removed by game events

Storage Strategy

Home Base Storage

Create centralized storage at main camp/house:

  • Food Storage: clay pots or crates for perishables
  • Material Storage: wooden chests for crafting supplies
  • Bulk Storage: barrels for large quantities
  • Organization: use multiple containers by category

Supply Caches

Place storage at strategic locations:

  • Travel Routes: resupply points between locations
  • Resource Sites: store gathered materials locally
  • Exploration Caches: emergency supplies in remote areas
  • Seasonal Camps: temporary bases for seasonal activities

Storage Tips

  1. Label mentally: remember container contents
  2. Mark maps: note container locations
  3. Rotate stock: use first-in-first-out for consumables
  4. Emergency caches: place along common routes
  5. Weight check: do not hoard unnecessarily
  6. Consolidate: merge partial stacks when possible
  7. Seasonal storage: store seasonal items when not in use
  8. Tool backup: keep backup tools in storage
  9. Trade prep: organize trade goods separately
  10. Expansion planning: build more containers as needed
